Much More Than Just Electricity…

official-opening-of-co-gen-plant0120 October 2010 may be generally thought of as an auspicious date by most, but it was especially memorable for PowerSeraya as the date marked the launch of its 800MW Co-Generation Combined Cycle Plant (Co-Gen CCP) on Jurong Island – a significant milestone for the company.

With the establishment of the Co-Gen CCP, customers on Jurong Island will be able to benefit from third-party outsourced utilities as it seals the company’s position to offer multi-utility services that include electricity, steam and water.

The official opening of the plant was graced by Guest-of-Honour Dr Yaacob Ibrahim from the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources.

It also boosts state-of-the-art technology to harness waste heat produced from the electricity generation process and utilises water from PowerSeraya’s own Seawater Reverse Osmosis (SWRO) Desalination Plant to produce up to 600 tonnes per hour of high-pressure steam.

With the Co-Gen CCP, together with the successful conversion of two units of its combined cycle power plants, PowerSeraya now holds the largest co-generation capacity of close to 1,500MW in Singapore.

Already, the company is providing a 15-year supply of steam to Petrochemical Corporation of Singapore. Additionally, its SWRO Desalination Plant is currently producing potable water to the marine services sector.
